John Schumacher

SENIOR ADVISOR

John is a Senior Advisor to Dextra on primary fund commitments.

John has over 30 years of private equity experience.  He is currently a Partner at Gryphon Investors, where he Co-Leads the firm’s Junior Capital Funds and serves as a member of Gryphon’s Investment Review and Quarterly Portfolio Review Committees.  

Before Gryphon, John co-founded and helped build GoldPoint Partners into a leading multi-strategy middle market private equity manager with a global investor base representing $16 billion of assets under management at the time of his departure in 2021. At GoldPoint, John served as Chief Executive Officer from its formation in 1999 through 2010, Chairman from 2010 through 2020, and Senior Advisor from 2020 through 2021. Before that, John was the Head of the Private Finance Group of GoldPoint’s parent company, New York Life.  

Prior to joining New York Life, John was a Vice President in the Private Placement Department at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company.

John has a B.A. in History from Columbia College and an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
